3 and a half months ago, I decided to start a 100-day challenge.

The purpose of the challenge was simple —

  • I wanted to be more regular with my writings
  • My social media — mainly LinkedIn — presence was in need of a boost
  • I wanted to incorporate running into my fitness regime

On September 20th, I completed the 100-day challenge. Before getting to how it went, let me share why a challenge like this was a good fit for me.

Why 100-Day Project Was The Right Approach For Me

1. I am a project-driven person

There are people who can do the same thing every day. I am not one of them.

Unfortunately, I get bored after following a routine for a long time.

However, I know that my routines and systems are the foundation on which I can build my successes.

I realized that I needed a different way of addressing the problem. To create a habit of running, writing, and posting on LinkedIn daily, I created the 100-day challenge.

By doing that, I had an end date in sight. It was not an endless activity anymore. I also had the sneaky idea that if I would succeed in maintaining the streak for 100 days, I would very likely form a habit.

2. Where focus goes, energy flows

5 years ago, I created a five-year plan for my development. This year, I updated that with the second version.

I love the plan. However, as the plan covers five different pillars of my life, it’s always possible that I’d lose focus.

Instead of chasing all five pillars, I chose 3 systems (out of many) that I wanted to focus on. The idea was that I’d make these three systems part of my day-to-day routine and then add 3 more later on.

3. I had a good idea about how to make the 100-day project work
